Spring Load Limits / Frost Law

Maximum gross vehicle weight allowed on any Grand Forks County road is 105,500 lbs. For heavier loads the department can issue oversize or overweight permits. Contact the Engineer's office for further instruction or special routing. The legal load of a truck shall be determined by the NDDOT Legal Load Weight Restrictions Guide & Chart.

Seasonal load restrictions are placed on all roads during the spring in Grand Forks County. Typically load restrictions are in place from mid February through May, but vary each year depending on actual moisture and weather conditions. The County uses the same guidelines, time frame and recommendations as the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT). Watch for official notices in the Grand Forks Herald and this website each spring. It’s worth noting that US Hwy 2 in some years is used as a dividing line.

Spring load restrictions shall go in effect Monday March 16, 2020 for all Grand Forks County roads.

Spring load restrictions shall end Monday June 1, 2020 for all Grand Forks County Roads except for one segment due to poor road conditions: CR 17 (Columbia Rd) between CR 81 (just north of 8th Ave NE) and CR 6 (12th Ave NE).
