Tornadoes and Winds

Our biggest weather related threat during the summer is high winds and tornado. High winds and tornadoes can cause damage to buildings, trees, power lines, and more. It is important to keep your yard and surrounding property clear of debris and to store lawn furniture and grills. In the event of high winds these items can become projectiles and cause damage to surrounding buildings and people. In the event of a tornado it is best to go to the lowest room of home - the basement. If you do not have a basement go to the inner most room of the home.

Tornado and High Wind Quick Tips

  • stay away from bridge/highway overpasses
  • don't try to out run a tornado if it is too close to you
  • if winds take down a power line do not approach the line. Call 911 or the local power company to inform them the line is down

  • talk to a contractor or handy man on how you can make your home more windproof
